Executive Chef Michael Mahalick
Chef Michael brings over a decade of culinary expertise and personal touch to Barley & Smoke. He honed his culinary craft at renowned Valley establishments such as The Boulders, Blue Hound and DeSoto Marketplace prior to assuming the role as the founding Executive Chef of Peoria Artisan Brewery. Chef Michael has over the years introduced our West Valley community to eclectic and uniquely elevated pub-fare and gained notoriety for his passion and commitment to community through his kitchen. Barley & Smoke exemplifies the culmination of years of dedication and pursuit of excellence not only to culinary technique, but also to hospitality. His array of signature dishes, influenced by both local and global flavors, ensures a diverse and ever-evolving culinary journey for every guest
Chef de Cuisine Kurtis Purdy
Chef Kurtis returns having previously been a Line Cook at Peoria Artisan Brewery in 2017. Having most recently served as Executive Chef at Tonto in Cave Creek, Chef Kurtis now leads the kitchen of Barley & Smoke. Chef Kurtis has an affinity for seafood; however, his passion lies in local ingredients and foraging to obtain flavors that speak to the terroir of our home. His choice tools of the trade are salt and fire which he will showcase using Barley & Smoke’s wood-fired oven and grill. Chef Kurtis has been developing his culinary skills from the young age of 13 and hails from a background of butchery and Southwest flavors.
